Do parents and other adults influence on children´s career choices?

Parents and other adults often influence children´s career choices.Is this a good thing?
On the one hand, the majority of parents leave their children decide what they really want to continue and not get into their career. Also parents help them with things so that their children can feel compliant on they wish to follow.
On the contrary, Parents influence in  their childrens career choices, obligated them to study something that they didn´t want to study. Then parents manipulated their children to not let them the career.
